As someone who doesn’t drink coffee (due to both a dislike of the taste and it leaving me behaving like an anxious and overwhelmed speed addict!) my morning beverage go-to when I want caffeine and the comfort a hot drink is always a matcha latte.
Not only do I love the taste of this (think a creamier, silky version of a green tea), but both matcha and collagen boast many a nutritional benefit, making this drink an incredibly supportive addition to my day.
Matcha contains potent antioxidants, compounds that support relaxation and stress management as well as offering detoxification, genitourinary and cardiovascular supporting benefits.
Then from the collagen you get skin, joint and digestive support thanks to the amino acids glycine, lysine and proline.
Interested in giving it a go? If so, this is my formula for what is in my eyes, the perfect collagen matcha!
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
1 tsp matcha powder (my favourite is Sipspa)
1/4 tsp honey
1 scoop of hydrolysed collagen powder (I use Designs for Health Whole Body collagen)
Instructions
1. Add 1 tsp of matcha powder to your mug with a splash of hot water (not boiling as this will ruin the matcha) and whisk well until the matcha powder is dissolved into the liquid.
2. In a saucepan or milk frother add your milk, collagen and honey. Froth or heat until simmering and hot (but never boiling as again this will ruin the taste!).
3. Once your milk is ready, pour your milk mix into the matcha mix, swirling the milk into the cup. Top with extra milk froth and a dusting more matcha if you feel like making it extra pretty.
